Hydro Equipment refurbishing – tainter gate trunnion Pins


Our skilled team meticulously refurbished these critical components to OEM specifications, ensuring precise machining and thorough dimension verification. With our engineering and technical team closely working with our customer throughout the process, we ensured the trunnion pins were delivered on time, fully compliant with technical specifications, and install schedule

Project:

  • Part: Tainter Gate Trunnion pins (2x) 
  • Details: Refurbish spare set of pins to current standards
  • Customer: NW Hydro Utility owner

Challenges:

  • Maintain tight tolerances on thin-walled stainless steel sleeve

Engineered Solutions:

  • Manufacture custom mandrels for each pin.
  • Procure centrifugally cast stainless steel sleeve material per OEM specifications.
  • Machine to remove existing chrome plating and prep surface for stainless steel sleeve.
  • Finish machine sleeve bores with proper interface for installation.
  • Install sleeve on prepped trunnion pins.
  • Grind trunnion pin OD sleeve to required dimensions.
  • Sandblast and paint required areas per specification.
  • Multiple customer shop inspection points.
  • Final inspection report for project.
  • Deliver to project site.

Results:

  • All technical specifications were achieved.
  • Machining of the trunnion pins was completed to meet the installation schedule and were successfully installed in the field.
