Total Roll Servicing Program

Western Machine Works offers a complete roll servicing program to maximize run time and the life of the roll, including scheduled roll maintenance, engineered upgrades and performance tracking to be sure your equipment operates at peak efficiency.

Our roll servicing program includes:

  1. Transportation

Our specialized transportation service ensures your rolls are transported in a safe and economical way using our specialized equipment and trained professional drivers.

  2. Inspection

All rolls are disassembled and subjected to a rigorous multi-point inspection, documenting dimensional data and non-destructive testing of critical components.

  3. Engineering

Our staff engineers evaluate and inspect data against OEM specifications, evaluate indications of performance problems, and perform stress calculations on critical components.

  4. Repairs

From bearing and head fit restoration to grinding and balancing, Western Machine Works can restore virtually any component of your roll.  All our repairs and upgrades are approached from an engineered stand point to ensure reliability.

  5. Grinding

We grind all roll types and covers, including polyurethane, rubber, composites and chilled iron, as well as venta-grooving services for press rolls.  Every roll we grind is returned with “before and after” profiles.

  6. Balancing

Today, roll balancing is more critical than ever as machines are running faster and original designed parameters are exceeded.  We help you select the most cost effective balancing specification to meet your operating needs.

  7. Final Preparation

All rolls are carefully prepared to protect your equipment during transportation and storage.  Roll tags are attached to the roll, identifying lubrication type, grinding specifications, and other vital information.

  8. Documentation

At the completion of each job, a final report is prepared including the scope of work performed and all pertinent inspection sheets.  This history is critical in predicting future repairs and identifying any operational deficiencies.

Suction Rolls

Most suction rolls today operate well beyond their originally designed specifications.  Faster machines and higher loading may require upgrades to your rolls to make sure they’re up to the job.  We can help by engineering and manufacturing solutions for your individual needs.  Whatever the issue, Western Machine can help.

Controlled Crown Rolls

Whether rebuilding or repairing, we have the experience and equipment to take care of business fast to get you up and running.

We utilize a pressure test stand depending on the application.  This also allows us to test your rolls to OEM specs with oil temperature control, and track the sealing performance of each roll over time to help our customers make informed decisions as to when a roll should be re-built.

Grinding and Balancing

We grind all types of rolls to exact application specifications and measure results with state-of-the-art equipment.

  • Calender Rolls
  • Suction Rolls
  • Press Rolls
  • Breaker Stack Rolls
  • Size Press Rolls
  • Coater Rolls
  • Wire Rolls
  • Felt Rolls

We have the engineers, technicians and equipment required to dynamically balance all types of paper machine rolls. With three plane balancing capabilities, we balance to ISO standards.
